Tina Casagrand Foss (she/her) is a magazine publisher/editor, journalist, essayist, teacher and literary party MC raised in the Gasconade River valley.
She is obsessed with place.
This place! The Lower Midwest! Read on…
Since founding the biannual print magazine The New Territory in 2016, Tina, together with a team of volunteer editors, has collaborated with more than 450 writers and artists from the Great Plains and Ozarks to unearth new stories focused on the environment, humanities, history and future of the Lower Midwest. She graduated from the University of Missouri with degrees in magazine journalism and anthropology and worked as a freelance environmental journalist before starting The New Territory.
For a magical month every June, Tina gets to teach classes on nature writing and print media at the Missouri Scholars Academy, a program for the state’s highest-achieving gifted high school students. In Fall 2025 she taught her first course for the MU Honors College, “The Nonprofit Sector: How to Work for Causes You Care About,” and looks forward to teaching it again. In earlier years she has served regional and national environmental organizations as a communications manager, project coordinator and web designer. She lives in Jefferson City, Missouri.
